The Stone Hearth

Gary P. West — Eating Your Way Across Kentucky

For years, since 1977, the Stone Hearth has been one fine restaurant. From the time you walk through the heavy wood doors, customers have the sense of a warm, relaxed, casual feeling, but at the same time an elegant, upscale atmosphere.

From the stone hearth fireplace to the gigantic salad bar, to the big overstuffed chairs to the cozy booths, this is an enjoyable place to eat.

When you first sit down, you are almost immediately presented with some fresh baked rolls and delicious strawberry butter. And it only gets better.

Eating Your Way Across Kentuckyk

Alyce Skees and Martha Pride have consistently maintained quality over the years and they've built a reputation with their French Onion soup and incredible salad bar. Not only does this salad bar look good, it is good, and very well may be the best in all of Kentucky.

The Stone Hearth is noted as a great place to lunch, and even though they have an "express menu" where your order is prepared in less than 15 minutes, may I suggest that you relax and order from the full menu.

A great selection of salads is offered and two of the more popular choices are the Strawberry Patch and the Honey Pecan Chicken Salad. Their names alone make you want one. An assortment of sandwiches, including one of my favorites, the Black and Blue Burger (anything with bleu cheese crumbles gets my vote) is offered.

The rib eye, grilled salmon and the hot brown are "can't go wrong" orders that make sure you don't leave hungry.

The evening meal offers an array of fish to include broiled cod, bourbon glazed grilled salmon, and broiled mahi mahi finished with a Malibu Sweet and sour sauce.

An assortment of steaks, chops, chicken and pasta dishes also highlight an extensive menu.

"The lounge and bar area are referred to as Martha's Vineyard," says Martha Pride. "And the rest of the place we refer to as Alyce's Restaurant. Bet you don't have two owners whose names work better than that."
